Presenter guide

General information

The following guide includes instructions for all SNC’23 presenters (Poster and Short Oral Presentation authors, Symposia participants, Plenary speakers and Educational Workshop speakers). All presenters must be registered for the SNC’23 in order to present their work. Invited Plenary, Symposia and Educational Workshop speakers are automatically registered by SNC'23 organisers, whereas Poster authors must register on their own. The deadline for early SNC’23 registration and reduced fee is August 24th, 2023.

Short oral presentations

A small number of poster abstract authors have been invited by the SNC’23 Programme Committee (PC) to give a short oral presentation (SOP) in addition to their posters. SOPs will take place on Friday, September 30th, between 9.00 and 11.00 a.m., and a computer projection system will be provided in the lecture hall. Using the lecture hall computer is a necessity for all presentations because of the short format and a large number of presentations.

Please, make sure to send your presentation (in PowerPoint or PDF format, slide dimensions 16:9, entitled “SOP_Author name_Author last name”) to [email protected] by September 27th and to test it on the lecture hall computer before the start of the programme on September 29th. The lecture hall will be accessible and technical support available between 12:00-12:45 and 18:15-19:00 on September 28th and 8:00-9:00 on September 29th. All presenters with short oral presentations should also prepare posters (see below for further instructions).

Speaking time is limited to 10 minutes per presenter and includes a brief discussion. All presenters are kindly requested to adhere to the allotted limit.

Poster presentations

1/ Poster presentation schedule

All SNC'23 participants with accepted abstracts will present their work in poster form. Presenters are requested to mount their posters on Thursday (September 28th) between 11:00 and 12:00 a.m., and leave them up until the closing of the SNC'23 around 19:00-20:00 on Saturday. Poster ID numbers will be available on poster boards, and adhesive tape will be provided. Posters with odd ID numbers shall be presented on Friday (13:00-14:00), and those with even-numbered ID codes on Saturday (13:00-14:00). Please see the online programme for your poster ID number. Presenters are requested to be by their posters, available for questions and discussion at the specified time slot and during coffee breaks (please see SNC'23 Schedule at a glance for further details). Posters not removed at the time of SNC’23 closing will be discarded. SNC’23 Programme and Organising Committees do not accept liability for lost or damaged posters and will not mail posters to authors after the conclusion of SNC’23.

2/ Instructions for preparing effective posters

SiNAPSA Conference is a multidisciplinary event. Remember that people of varying degrees of professional experience and diverse research interests may be viewing your poster. Therefore, you will want to make your points as clear and succinct as possible.

Posters must be brought to the SNC’23 by the presenting author and should not be mailed in advance. The poster boards allow posters up to 140-180 cm tall and 95 cm wide. Standard elements of a SNC poster include Introduction, Methods, Results (with supporting figures), and a Conclusion or Summary. List of references should be added if published work is cited. Text and figures should be easily read and appreciated from a distance of 1 meter. Use clear graphics and adequately sized font to accomplish this.

Poster title, author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s) should be given at the top. Lettering should be bold and about 3-5 cm in size.

Note of advice for junior poster presenters: succinct display of main elements of the work is key to successful presentation. When writing the text of the poster, minimise narrative and break text into brief paragraphs. Numbered or bulleted lists are a concise, effective way to convey a series of points. Because the amount of body text is restricted, do not go into details. Also, instead of repeating statements from the main text, use figure legends to complement the main text and provide additional valuable information on Methods and Results to the viewers.

Symposia presentations

Please see the SNC'23 Schedule at a glance and SNC’23 Programme for further details regarding the time of your symposium. Symposia presentations are generally limited to 15 minutes (unless otherwise specified by the Chair) and include a brief discussion. All presenters are kindly requested to adhere to the allotted limit. A computer projection system will be provided in the lecture hall. Using the lecture hall computer is a necessity for all presentations because of the short format and a large number of presentations.

Please, make sure to send your presentation (in PowerPoint or PDF format, slide dimensions 16:9, entitled “Symposia title_Presentation title_Author name_Author last name”) to [email protected] by September 27th and to test it on the lecture hall computer before the start of the symposium in which you are participating. The lecture halls will be accessible and technical support available between 12:00-12:45 on September 28th, between 08:00-09:00 on September 29th and between 8:00-09:00 on September 30th.
