Internship position (research assistant) on Visual Perception and Control of Action available at IIT-CNCS

The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (http://www.iit.it) is a private law Foundation, created with special Government Law no. 269 of September 30th 2003, with the objective of promoting Italy’s technological development and higher education in science and technology. Research at IIT is carried out in highly innovative scientific fields with state-of-the-art technology.

The Active Vision Lab of the CNCS - Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems (http://cncs.iit.it/) is seeking a full-time internship (research assistant) to begin in December, 2012. This would be an excellent position for graduates who wish to sharpen their research skills before continuing to postgraduate study. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience, biology, engineering or related fields, familiarity and ease with computers and strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Expertise with programming, prior independent research experience, and/or statistics is strongly desirable. The salary will be commensurate to qualification and in line to that of top European research institutes.

The successful candidate will assist with all aspects of experimentation including designing, preparing and running the experiments, recruiting participants, analyzing behavioral and kinematic data and publication.

The Active Vision Lab is equipped with a state of the art system for 3D visualization, a head tracking system, an eye tracking system and a multi-sensor OPTOTRAK system for monitoring grasping and reaching movements. The Active Vision lab uses cutting edge technologies to investigate how 3D cues influence perceptual and motor judgments, and how visual perception works during active movements of the observer.

The Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems is hosted at the facilities of the Center for Mind/Brain Sciences - CIMeC (http://www.unitn.it/cimec), an interdisciplinary center for teaching and research in cognitive neuroscience of the University of Trento in Rovereto, Italy. The CIMeC hosts also a Doctoral School in Cognitive and Brain Sciences (http://www.unitn.it/en/drcimec). The University of Trento is ranked first among research universities in Italy, and the Trentino region is consistently at the top for quality of life and for the most efficient services in Italy.
